1. Overview

Opal Clean ("Opal," "we," "us," or "our") provides home-cleaning services to customers across the Carolinas. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit opalclean.co, book a clean, or interact with us by phone or email — and how we use, share, and protect that information.

By using our website or services, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use our site or book a clean.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us directly

  • Account and booking information: name, email address, phone number, service address, gate or alarm codes, special instructions, pet information, allergy notes.
  • Payment information: we use a third-party payment processor (Stripe). We do not store your full credit card number on our servers — Stripe handles that. We may store the last four digits and card brand so you can identify the card on file.
  • Communications: emails, texts, voicemails, and chat messages you send to us, including their content.
  • Reviews and feedback: ratings, comments, and any other content you choose to share.
  • Job applications: if you apply for a job, your résumé, work history, references, and answers to interview questions.

Information we collect automatically

  • Device and usage data: IP address, browser type, operating system, pages viewed, time spent, referring URL, and links clicked.
  • Location: approximate location based on your IP address. We do not collect precise GPS location from your device.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: see Section 5 below.

Information from third parties

  • Background-check providers: for prospective housekeepers only — never customers.
  • Marketing platforms: if you visit our site after clicking an ad, we may receive limited information about the source.

3. How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve our cleaning service.
  • Schedule cleans, route housekeepers, and communicate with you about your bookings.
  • Process payments and prevent fraud.
  • Send you appointment reminders, receipts, and other transactional messages.
  • Send you marketing communications (you can opt out anytime — see Section 7).
  • Respond to your questions, feedback, and support requests.
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect against fraud, abuse, or harm.
  • Analyze how our website and services are used so we can improve them.

4. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these limited cases:

  • Housekeepers: the Opal pros assigned to your home receive your name, address, gate or alarm codes, and any special instructions you've left for them. We do not share your payment information with them.
  • Service providers: payment processors (Stripe), email and SMS providers, scheduling and routing software, cloud hosting, and customer-support tools. These providers are contractually limited to handling your information only as needed to provide their service to us.
  • Legal and safety: when required by law, subpoena, or court order; to protect the rights, property, or safety of Opal, our customers, or our employees; or to investigate fraud or abuse.
  • Business transfers: if Opal is acquired, merged, or sold, your information may transfer to the new entity. We'll notify you before that happens.
  • With your consent: any other sharing only happens with your clear, advance permission.

5. Cookies and tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, understand how our site is used, and (with your consent) deliver relevant ads.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking all cookies may make parts of our site stop working — for example, you may not be able to stay logged in or complete a booking.

Analytics We use privacy-respecting analytics that aggregate data and do not track you across other websites. We do not use Facebook Pixel or Google Ads cookies without your explicit consent.

6. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period after that to fulfill legal, tax, accounting, and dispute-resolution obligations. Specifically:

  • Account and booking history: for the life of your account plus 7 years after account closure (for tax purposes).
  • Payment records: as long as required by federal and state tax law (typically 7 years).
  • Communications: 3 years.
  • Marketing data: until you unsubscribe or 2 years of inactivity, whichever comes first.

You can ask us to delete your information sooner — see Section 7.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we have about you.
  • Correct inaccurate information.
  • Delete your account and personal information (subject to legal retention requirements).
  • Port your information to another service.
  • Opt out of marketing communications at any time.
  • Object to certain uses of your information.

To make any of these requests, email admin@opalclean.co from the address on your account. We'll respond within 30 days.

You can also unsubscribe from any marketing email by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom. Transactional emails (appointment confirmations, receipts, reminders) cannot be unsubscribed from as long as you have an active booking.

8. How we protect your information

We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including:

  • Encryption in transit (HTTPS) on every page of our website.
  • Encryption at rest for stored data.
  • Tokenized payment processing — your full card number never touches our servers.
  • Access controls limiting who at Opal can see customer information.
  • Background checks for every employee with access to personal data.

No system is ever 100% secure. If we discover a data breach affecting your information, we'll notify you as required by law.

9. Children's privacy

Opal Clean is intended for adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we've collected information from a child under 13, please contact us at admin@opalclean.co and we'll delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If the changes are material, we'll also notify you by email or with a notice on the site before the new policy takes effect.

We encourage you to review this page periodically.
